IMMFUND-IMMFONDS was developed in accordance with the mandate of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC). The fund offers consumers of immigration services an added layer of protection against the fraudulent activities of immigration consultants.
This client compensation fund was created following a period of consultation, during which members and external stakeholders were invited to comment on a proposed fund. The fund began operating on January 1, 2009.
Operated as a new non-profit subsidiary of CSIC, IMMFUND-IMMFONDS has its own staff and board of directors.
IMMFUND-IMMFONDS fulfills the last of CSIC's obligations under Recommendation 9 of the 2003 Report of the Advisory Committee on Regulating Immigration Consultants, the Advisory body that created CSIC. The fund is the final deliverable of the Contribution Agreement between Citizenship and Immigration Canada and CSIC.
